Possible Child Enticement In Our Area
Added 02.01.07 - Last night, January 30th, 2007, Meridian Police took a report of a possible child enticement near the area of Ustick and Black Cat. Meridian does not have a suspect
at this time but the case went to the Meridian Crime Prevention unit.
The children shared a lot of information. Please do speak with your children about what to do if someone approaches them that
they do not know or feel uncomfortable. I have developed a coloring book and might
be beneficial. These types of unfortunate and scary incidents remind all of us to
review safety rules and plans with your children, grandchildren, and friends.
Reports Of Missing Animals
Added 01.25.07 - We recently had a homeowner inform the board in the past couple months, three different cats have gone missing. Please contact Meridian Animal Control with any additional concerns or Meridian dispatch. Both numbers can be found here.
ATM Pin Alert
Added 02.08.06 - Several Meridian residents have recently received a fraudulent email from “Chase Security Department” the subject line reads: Message ID 172 IMPORTANT: Account Verification. The email began circulating Feb. 6, 2006.
The email requests that the customer login to Chase Internet Banking by clicking to a link, they are then asked to supply their valid ATM Pin number – the message states that they need to do this in order to get their account reactivated by their system. In addition they also request the customer to supply other personal information.
THIS IS A FRAUD – DO NOT PROCEED.
The 1-800 number given for their “Online Account Services” is actually a phone number for Washington Mutual, and of course the link is also bogus. Throughout the message there are a number of misspellings and typos.
Both Washington Mutual and Chase Bank have sent out warnings to their customers, we wanted to reinforce this by sending this important message out to our community. Please share this Crime Alert with your neighbors especially those who may be vulnerable.
UPS/FedEx Packages Reported Stolen
Added 11.28.05 - Recently, homes (so far) in the north end of Meridian and NW Boise have experienced thefts of UPS packages from front porches of residents. The UPS Store at 13601 McMillan gave helpful advice that we wanted to share:
1. If someone is expecting a package, they should leave a note on the porch as to where to leave the package or to take it to a trusted neighbor who is home. The note doesn't have to be on the door; it can be somewhat inconspicuous.
2. If they are ordering something to be sent to them, give the UPS Store's address, store zip code and their own name on the order. Contact the UPS Store to give them a heads-up that the package is coming so the store doesn't deny the package.
3. When delivering packages to homes it is up to the individual UPS driver as to whether he/she leaves a package or not.
4. If someone is a victim they should report this to UPS at (800) 742-5877 to alert UPS and in turn UPS will contact the local UPS store.
Please be eyes and ears. If anyone witnesses a crime in progress - such as thefts of packages - they need to call 911 immediately.
Door To Door Salesman Watch
Added 03.29.05 - Boise Police received calls Friday and today (Mon) about magazine subscription salesman in the Boise area. No city license. One salesperson, Veronica, about 18 yoa, asked to use the bathroom of a Boise resident, took the owner’s makeup and left. These salespeople are from out of the area. LSI is the company. Always ask to see the license of any salesperson selling door to door. Never allow them into your home. Report any suspicious activity. If you have any questions please contact Meridian Police Department Crime Prevention at 846-7360. Please pass this Crime Alert information on to your neighbors. Stay safe.
Satellite Dishes Reported Stolen
Added 03.07.05 - Meridian has recently experienced a rash (5) of Dish Network Satellite Super dishes from area homes. Unknown suspects climb onto victim's roof and steal the dish. Several of these thefts have taken place in the afternoon. If you see any suspicious activities in your neighborhood be sure to contact 9-1-1. Also, if you have any information you would like to share regarding these incidents contact Meridian Police Department Detectives at 888.6676.
Spring Contractor Scams
Added 03.07.05 - It’s Spring and once again yard and home contractors scams begin to surface. Recently, a Meridian resident was a victim of one of these. Paving “contractors” approached a resident stating that they had “extra paving materials” and would give the resident a special deal on paving their driveway. Of course the paving “contractor” wanted cash before and delivered very substandard workmanship and product. Be sure to check out any contractor and request references from them before hiring. That age old saying still applies today “If it’s too good to be true – it isn’t”. |
